Dear friends,

Please join us another silent movie night in Second Life. We’ll be watching 1925 French sci-fi comedy “Paris qui dort” (known in English as “The Crazy Ray”, “Paris Asleep”, and “At 3:25”), directed by René Clair.

IMDB Storyline: “Early roots of sci-fi magic are given to us in the form of a scientist who invents a ray that makes people caught in its beam fall asleep where they stand. With magical and wonderful shots of a Paris long gone, it is the adventure of a group of unaffected who with their sudden freedoms play the game of mice while the cat is away. With a narrative that sways toward a moralistic stance on the principles of fair play and responsibility, this little science fiction fable can still be poignant today as when the magnificent views were first shot from the dizzy heights of the Eiffel Tower.”

Hope to have you with us – Friday, 17 November, at 1 pm SLT.

Dear all,

Join us for another silent movie night in #SecondLife – continuing with the November science fiction theme. We’ll be watching 1913 British film “A Message from Mars”, directed by Wallet Waller, starring Charles Hawtrey and E. Holman Clark.

In the film, a Martian is sentenced to visit Earth to cure a selfish man. As others have noted, the plot resembles that of Dickens’ novella “A Christmas Carol” – with an alien twist!

Final note: you will see many, many changes on the Refugium island. The cinema is no longer in a skybox, and to get to it, at the gate turn into the corridor on the right, and just walk to the end.

Here’s the updated SLurl that will take you to the landing point:

We start at 1 pm SLT, and I hope you can join us!

Silent movie night: “Warning Shadows” (1923)

Join us this Friday, October 13, for another silent movie in Second Life on the October horror theme. We’ll be watching “Warning Shadows” (Schatten – Eine nächtliche Halluzination), a 1923 German expressionist film directed by Arthur Robison, starring Alexander Granach (more known for his role in 1922 Nosferatu) and Max Walter Gülstorff.

IMDB summary: A wealthy man invites the local wealthy bachelors over for a puppet show about men who covet another man’s wife. The puppeteer is actually a witch and gives the men nightmares about what could happen if they date the lady of the house.

As always, the movie night starts at 1 pm SLT.

Please note the new location of the cinema, from now on in Second Norway. This SLurl will take you to the landing point on the island, just follow the path to the box office and the teleporter (or IM me to TP you): http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/East%20Fjord%20Grieg/164/145/22
