Open-air cinema at Wannsee

This month’s silent movie night in 1920s Berlin will be a bit special. As the weather’s been quite hot and muggy, I thought we could gather outside Kino Babylon, and have a pleasant evening by the Wannsee lake instead.

Still a work in progress at the time of writing

From the time before my original silent cinema group moved to Berlin, it was something of a tradition of ours to watch a Buster Keaton comedy before we went on summer break. For this month I thus chose two of Keaton’s short movies, each about 20 minutes long: first we’ll watch The Boat (1921), which follows a series of disasters at sea that only Buster could think of; co-starring Edward Cline and Sybil Seely.

The second film is The Love Nest (1923), which happens to be the last of the nineteen short films Keaton made in the early 1920s. Co-starring Virginia Fox and Joe Roberts, this one is also set on a boat – matching nicely our summertime theme.

Due to technical reasons, only one of the two will be available for on-demand viewing at Kino Babylon until the end of August.

Movie night will take place on Friday, 26 July, starting at 1 pm SLT. If you’re unfamiliar with the 1920s Berlin sim and don’t know how to find the exact location of the Wannsee beach, click here for direct TP. Regular sim rules apply.
